Watercolor

This class offers demos, directed paint-alongs, gentle critique, and lots of fun. We may paint landscapes, still life, florals, animals or portraits as requested by the group. Techniques such as washes, color mixing, lifting, masking, and saving white are covered.

INSTRUCTOR: LINDA LORD is a self-trained artist and illustrator with over 10 years teaching experience in her studio and via the SC Watercolor Society; an Open Studio artist whose exhibits include Cozumel, Mexico. Linda also publishes with a decorative art publisher.

Landscapes with Pastels: Studio & Plein Air

A chance to focus on drawing with the "forgiving" mediums of pastels. Landscape elements, pastel approaches, color palettes, values and more will be covered. Starting with two sessions in the SCAL classroom and two outside.

Landscape Painting (Studio/Plein Air)

In this class the first two weeks start off in the SCAL classroom painting from photographs along with instructor demonstrations. The last two weeks will be spent on location around Santa Cruz painting en plein air. Students learn basic landscape painting skills such as composition, atmospheric perspective, depth, light, temperature and values.

Level: Beginner plus to Intermediate.

INSTRUCTOR: BARBARA BAILEY-PORTER. Barbara has been a painting instructor at S.F. Academy of Art (where she received a Masters in Fine Arts), Cabrillo and DeAnza. She taught through the Santa Cruz City School District and has been a Spectra Artist in the gifted and talented program in the past. An Open Studio artist, her work is found in many collections.

Painting Workshop

All painting media and levels of experience welcome.Learn the principles that will make your paintings come to life in a workshop

INSTRUCTOR: W. Downey Dyer - a fulltime professional artist with over 20 years experience as a gallery and frame shop owner, Bill studied 8 years privately with foremost impressionist Don Hatfield. Bill is an Open Studio artist who has exhibited widely.

Plein Air Oil Painting

Experience the thrill and exhilaration of painting outdoors. This class is held on location with an instructor demo and discussion of subject matter, paint application, color and more. Instructor will guide students through the location painting process. First meeting on location at Arana Gulch. See map at SCAL.

Level: Beginner plus to Intermediate
